One Cool Cat

Bay 2001 16.1 hh (1.65 m)
Storm Cat - Tacha
Distance won over: 6f. & 7f.

One Cool Cat is a dual Gr.1 winning juvenile and was Champion 3yo Sprinter in Europe. He is a son of Champion sire Storm Cat, just like leading sires Giant’s Causeway, Tale Of The Cat and Hennessy. Furthermore, he is a grandson of Champion sire Mr. Prospector. One Cool Cat is a fantastic looking horse – in fact he realised a cool $3.1m as a yearling at Keeneland in 2002. He is off to a sensational start with his first crop of 2yo's in 2008, with 18 individual winners and 5 stakes winners already!

Fee for 2008: € 12,500

One Cool Cat was the highest-priced yearling sold in the USA in 2002, at $3,100,000. In topping Keeneland’s July Sale, he followed the example of such successful stallions as Nureyev, Royal Academy and A.P. Indy.

One Cool Cat is the most accomplished male representative of the celebrated Storm Cat/Mr. Prospector cross, which has produced nine Graded stakes winners. The cross’s other representatives include Tale Of The Cat, a highly popular American stallion, and Storm Boot, who did well with limited opportunities.

Both these stallions have sired Graded winners from mares with DAMASCUS blood, through PRIVATE ACCOUNT, TIMELESS MOMENT and TIMELESS NATIVE, with Tale Of The Cat notably siring the Gr.1 winner My Trusty Cat. This ties in with the records of several other Storm Cat line stallions.

One Cool Cat is inbred 3x3 to NORTHERN DANCER through two of that great stallion’s Graded winners. A third line is still an option, as has been shown by Storm Cat’s daughter Nebraska Tornado and unbeaten grandson Cactus Ridge. Mares by sons of Northern Dancer will create 4x4x3, and mares by grandsons, such as BARATHEA, IN THE WINGS, LAST TYCOON, PEINTRE CELEBRE, DANEHILL, GREEN DESERT, ALHAARTH and CAERLEON, create 4x4x4.

One Cool Cat’s two lines of Northern Dancer could be interesting if coupled with inbreeding to MR. PROSPECTOR, the sire of One Cool Cat’s dam. There are an increasing number of Graded winners whose pedigrees include inbreeding to these two great stallions in the first four generations, including the Gr.1 winners Red Rocks, Carry On Katie, Elusive City, Flower Alley and Commentator.

One Cool Cat could also excel with other Raise A Native line mares. There is also the option of the SHARPEN UP branch of the Native Dancer line.

Storm Cat sired Harlan and Van Nistelrooy from daughters of HALO, who also appears in the pedigrees of Giant’s Causeway and Denebola. KRIS S., another member of the Hail To Reason male line, is the broodmare sire of Sweet Catomine, while LEAR FAN is the broodmare sire of the Group winners Dessert and Phantom Wind. ROBERTO sired the dam of Ambitious Cat and the second dam of Giant’s Causeway.

SEATTLE SLEW mares also have an impressive record with Storm Cat, thanks to Raging Fever, China Storm, Statue of Liberty and Stormin Fever. Consequently, mares by his sons, such as A.P. INDY and SLEW O’GOLD, have to be considered. A.P. INDY mares would create 4x4 to SECRETARIAT.

Storm Cat has an impressive record with mares from the BLUSHING GROOM male line. He has Gr.1 winners out of mares by BLUSHING GROOM and his sons BAILLAMONT (Aljabr), CRYSTAL GLITTERS (Consolidator) and RAHY (Giant’s Causeway, After Market and Sophisticat).
