Holy Roman Emperor

Bay 2004 15.2½ hh (1.58 m)
Danehill – L’On Vite
Distance won over: 6f to 7 f.

"Seven races in little over four months represents a pretty arduous campaign for the two-year-old, especially so when four of those races were in Group 1 company. It is a long time since a juvenile contested the Phoenix Stakes, National Stakes, Grand Criterium and Dewhurst Stakes and considering he produced an improved level of performance each time bears testimony to Holy Roman Emperor’s constitution"

Holy Roman Emperor is inbred 3x3 to the great NORTHERN DANCER and 4x4x4 to the celebrated Natalma. This doesn’t rule out more NORTHERN DANCER blood, as Desert King and Rock of Gibraltar (both inbred 3x3) sired very useful winners from daughters of SADLER’S WELLS. Interestingly, Rock of Gibraltar and Desert King both sired Group winners with a second line of DANZIG.

Holy Roman Emperor is likely to do well with the SHARPEN UP line, following the example of Rock of Gibraltar, who sired the Gr.1 winner Mount Nelson from a SELKIRK mare and the Gr.3 winner Utrecht from a KRIS mare. Desert King also did well with this line, siring the Gr.1 winner Chelsea Rose from a TREMPOLINO mare.

The NEVER BEND line is an obvious option, as Desert King sired the brilliant Australian mare Makybe Diva from a RIVERMAN mare and Rock of Gibraltar sired the Gr.2 winner Eagle Mountain from a DARSHAAN mare.

The BLUSHING GROOM branch of the NASRULLAH line can hardly fail with Holy Roman Emperor. Flying Spur sired Group winners from daughters of RAHY and NASSIPOUR and this ties in with the Danehill line’s successes with BLUSHING GROOM and RAINBOW QUEST. The GREY SOVEREIGN branch is another which merits respect, including mares by such as KENMARE, KENDOR, HIGHEST HONOR and NISHAPOUR.

The MR. PROSPECTOR line merits serious consideration, as Flying Spur sired a Gr.1 winner from a mare by QUIET AMERICAN. Danehill sired Gr.1 winners from mares by Mr. Prospector’s sons MISWAKI, MACHIAVELLIAN and CONQUISTADOR CIELO.

THATCHING mares have done very well with Danehill. Another fast branch of the Hyperion male line - the SING SING branch - has supplied Danehill Dancer with the very smart sprinter Monsieur Bond (out of a SONG mare) and the high-class miler Indesatchel (out of a PETORIUS mare). Mares by CADEAUX GENEREUX and EFISIO are other attractive options.

Danehill sired a Gr.1 winner from a ROBERTO mare, plus very smart performers from mares by three sons of ROBERTO, including one from a LEAR FAN mare. Desert King and Danehill Dancer also sired Group winners from LEAR FAN mares.
