Pivotal - Obsessive
Distance won over: 5f. - 8f.

From the family of Chief’s Crown, a leading sire of Gr.1 winners like Grand Lodge, Chief Bearheart, Erhaab, Be My Chief and Chief Honcho.

Won the St. James’s Palace Stakes-Gr.1, other winners include the leading sires Rock of Gibraltar, Giant’s Causeway, Grand Lodge and Kingmambo.

At 2 years he was very precocious, easily winning his maiden on 20th April before going on to land the Mill Reef Stakes-Gr.2.

Fee for 2008: € 25,000

Excellent Art’s pedigree makes him a very welcome addition to the Coolmore roster, as he will suit mares by many previous members of the Coolmore stallion team.

SADLER’S WELLS mares will produce 5x3 inbreeding to Northern Dancer and 5x4 to Special, the dam of Nureyev and second dam of Sadler’s Wells and FAIRY KING. He should also prove a useful means of injecting more speed and precocity into daughters of GALILEO, MONTJEU and IN THE WINGS.

Mares by DANEHILL look sure to suit him. He is by Pivotal, who sired the Irish 1000 Guineas winner Saoire from a Danehill mare, and Pivotal also has Group winners out of mares by Danzig’s son CHIEF’S CROWN and grandson BE MY CHIEF. Pivotal also has Group winners out of mares by NORTHERN DANCER’s sons THE MINSTREL and NIGHT SHIFT, and another out of a mare by CAERLEON. The second dams of Pivotal’s Group winners include NIJINSKY, his sons CAERLEON and KINGS LAKE and his three-parts-brother THE MINSTREL. There are also second dams by LYPHARD and his sons PHARLY and DANCING BRAVE, and LEGEND OF FRANCE, another son of Lyphard, sired the dam of Pivotal’s Gr.3 winner Lucky Spin. Two other sons of Northern Dancer, BE MY GUEST and SHAREEF DANCER, are among the sires of the second dams of Pivotal Group winners. ROYAL ACADEMY mares are another option. It mustn’t be forgotten, either, that Pivotal has a Gr.1 winner inbred 3x3 to NUREYEV.

Although Excellent Art is out of a mare by Seeking The Gold, he is well worth considering for mares by MISWAKI and WOODMAN. These create 4x3 to Mr. Prospector and 5x4 to Buckpasser. Pivotal sired the Group winners Captain Rio and Humouresque from MISWAKI mares, plus another Group winner out of a daughter of KINGMAMBO. Pivotal has Group winners out of mares by COLLEGE CHAPEL and COMMON GROUNDS, two grandsons of SHARPEN UP. This suggests that daughters of SELKIRK, DIESIS, SHARPO, KRIS and SURE BLADE would suit Excellent Art.

PIVOTAL has Group winners out of daughters of DOYOUN and HIGH ESTATE, so mares by SHIRLEY HEIGHTS and DARSHAAN come into the picture.

Among the fast stallions which figure among the broodmare sires of Pivotal’s Group winners are PRIMO DOMINIE, SONG, TINA’S PET and PETONG.

The BOLD RULER line has also enjoyed significant success with BOLD RULER line stallions, such as SECRETARIAT (sire of Excellent Art’s second dam), Secretariat’s son GENERAL ASSEMBLY and General Assembly’s son PRESIDIUM. The Gr.1 winner Chorist is out of a CHIEF SINGER mare.

As Pivotal sired the high-class American mare Megahertz from a RAHY mare, Excellent Art could be an option for daughters of RAINBOW QUEST, ARAZI and NASHWAN.
