Danzig - Catchascatchcan
Distance won over: 6f. to 7f.

A Group 2 winner at 2 and a leading miler at 3. A top class son of DANZIG, just like DANEHILL, ANABAA and GREEN DESERT. Out of the unbeaten CATCHASCATCHCAN, winner of the Yorkshire Oaks-Gr.1. From the family of ONCIDIUM, a champion sire in Australia. His third and fourth dams both won the Ribblesdale Stakes Gr.2. The fantastic looks to cost $1.5m as a yearling. Antonius Pius has his first yearlings in 2008.

Fee for 2009: €5,000

Antonius Pius should suit the SHARPEN UP branch of the Native Dancer line, including daughters of KRIS, DIESIS, SELKIRK, TREMPOLINO, COMMON GROUNDS, COLLEGE CHAPEL and HALLING. Danzig sired Group winners from daughters of Sharpen Up, Trempolino and Diesis, and the strength of this cross is underlined by the fact that there are Gr.1 winners by such as Danehil l, Green Desert , Dayjur, Desert King, Grand Lodge and Rock of Gibraltar from Sharpen Up line mares.

It is significant that much of Danzig ’s success include Group winners out of mares by MR. PROSPECTOR, LYCIUS, AFFIRMED, ALYSHEBA and TURKOMAN. Equally significant, Danehill sired the Gr.1 winners George Washington and Rumplestiltskin from daughters of Alysheba and Mr. Prospector, and he also sired Gr.1 winners from daughters of Affirmed, Miswaki and Conquistador Cielo. Mares by sons of Mr. Prospector have to be considered for Antonius Pius.

Danzig excelled with mares with RIBOT blood and Danehill sired good winners from daughters of ALLEGED and from mares by Alleged’s son LAW SOCIETY.  Danzig’s sons Danehill and Green Desert have both done very well with mares by AHONOORA. These mares would also suit Antonius Pius, as would mares by Ahonoora’s son INDIAN RIDGE.

Mares by grandsons of NORTHERN DANCER create only 3x4 inbreeding to Northern Dancer.

Several other sons of Danzig have Group winners inbred to him, so Antonius Pius should suit mares by such as BARATHEA, IN THE WINGS, MONTJEU, ALZAO, LAST TYCOON, SALSE, SOVIET STAR and BLUEBIRD. An ALZAO mare produced the classic-winning Aussie Rules to another son of Danzig . The exceptional Rock of Gibraltar, the dual classic winner Desert King and the Gr.1 winners Holy Roman Emperor and Horatio Nelson are inbred 3x3 to Northern Dancer. Antonius Pius’ sire has enjoyed considerable success with mares by stallions from the Turn-to line. He should do well with mares by sons and grandsons of ROBERTO, such as ROBELLINO and DR. FONG.

Danzig’s sons Green Desert and Polish Precedent have both done very well with SHIRLEY HEIGHTS and DARSHAAN mares, the 2006 French Derby winner Darsi being an example. Danehill sired the Gr.1 winner Grey Lilas from a daughter of KENMARE. Danehill sired the Derby winner North Light from a RAINBOW QUEST mare, while Polish Precedent, another son of Danzig , sired the Gr.1 winners Rakti and Polish Summer.
