Duke of Marmalade hails from the family of several sires that now feature in broodmare pedigrees. Using mares by BITE THE BULLET, A.P. INDY, SUMMER SQUALL, WOLFHOUND, FOXHOUND, HONOR GRADES and SPECTACULAR SPY all reinforces his exceptional tail female line.
CANNY LAD mares have produced multiple Group 1 winners likes of Redoute’s Choice by Danehill and Desert War by a son of Danehill. In fact there are over 25 Group winners by Danehill or his sons that are out of mares from the BLETCHINGLY sire line. It’s also worth remembering that MARSCAY, who like Bletchingly is by BISCAY, is the broodmare sire of Danehill’s multiple Group 1 winners Elvstroem and Mr Murphy.
Duke of Marmalade’s dam sire Kingmambo responds very well to mares carrying SADLER’S WELLS. Mares by SCENIC, GALILEO, CARNEGIE, BARATHEA, MONTJEU, KING’S THEATRE and SINGSPIEL are appealing. Taking this cross a step further includes mares by ENCOSTA DE LAGO as his sire FAIRY KING is a full-brother to SADLER’S WELLS.
Both Danehill and Kingmambo cross very well with NIJINSKY II. Mares by sires such as ROYAL ACADEMY, BEL ESPRIT, KALA DANCER, YEATS, CAERLEON, WESTERN SYMPHONY, WHISKEY ROAD, SERHEED and BLETCHLEY PARK create this pattern.v
BLUSHING GROOM is in the pedigree of several of Danehill’s Group One winners, including Arena. Blushing Groom can be sourced in mares by QUEST FOR FAME, FANTASTIC LIGHT, NASSIPOUR, ARAZI, URGENT REQUEST, VISCOUNT and SPECTRUM.
Danehill’s Group 1 winners Danewin, Joie Denise, Westerner and Fine Motion are all out of mares from the PETITION sire line.
Duke of Marmalade carries a daughter of Sir Gaylord on his tail female line. Introducing mares carrying a son of Sir Gaylord, such as SIR IVOR, will create a desirable sex balanced duplication. Therefore the SIR TRISTRAM line is highly desirable as Group 1 winners from the Danehill line out of mares from this line appear through ZABEEL, SOVEREIGH RED, KAAPSTAD, MARAUDING, GROSVNOR etc.
Duke of Marmalade carries a duplication of Buckpasser, a LA TROIENNE family member. Reinforcement of this line has been extremely successful, so introducing mares from this family is appealing. Daughters of MORE THAN READY, WOODMAN, NOBLE BIJOU and RHYTHM are desirable.
RIVERMAN line mares have produced Group 1 winners like Makybe Diva, Aqua d’Amore, Arapaho Miss and Rena’s Lady with Danehill line stallions.
Sons of Danehill have also crossed very successfully with LUNCHTIME line mares resulting in Group 1 winners like Choisir, Snitzel and Magnus.
KAORU STAR’s son LUSKIN STAR is the broodmare sire of Danehill’s dual Group 1 winners Merlene and Dashing Eagle.
The STORM BIRD line should also work very well with Duke of Marmalade. Not only is there a Group 1 winner by Storm Bird in his family (Summer Squall) and a Group 1 placegetter (Statue of Liberty), but this line also works well with Danehill (ie Danendri and The Duke). Descendants of Storm Bird include TALE OF THE CAT, BLUEBIRD and HENNESSY.
