Holy Roman Emperor

Bay 2004 15.2½ hh
Danehill – L’On Vite
Distance won over: 1200 to 1400m

"Seven races in little over four months represents a pretty arduous campaign for the two-year-old, especially so when four of those races were in Group 1 company. It is a long time since a juvenile contested the Phoenix Stakes, National Stakes, Grand Criterium and Dewhurst Stakes and considering he produced an improved level of performance each time bears testimony to Holy Roman Emperor’s constitution"

A Brilliant Sires' Pedigree

By the remarkable sire of sires Danehill. Out of a Secretariat mare, like Storm Cat, A.P. Indy, Gone West etc. From the family of Night Shift, one of the best sires in Europe over the last 20 years and Encosta de Lago an exceptional sire in Australia.

Rated 125 by Timeform.. "he is a powerhouse on looks" - Racehorses of 2006

Fee for 2008: $44,000

Holy Roman Emperor is from the family of ENCOSTA DE LAGO (by Fairy King).  Daughters of this top sire will create desirable line breeding prepotent mare, CIBOULETTE.  Other suitable family members include HIDEYOSHI, MEDAILLE D’OR, NIGHT SHIFT and SNAADEE.

Hole Roman Emperor is inbred 3x3 to the great NORTHERN DANCER and 4x4x4 to the celebrated Natalma. This doesn’t rule out more NORTHERN DANCER blood, as Desert King and Rock of Gibraltar (both inbred 3x3) sired very useful winners from daughters of SADLER’S WELLS. Interestingly, Rock of Gibraltar and Desert King both sired Group winners with a second line of DANZIG.

Holy Roman Emperor is likely to do well with the SHARPEN UP line, following the example of Rock of Gibraltar, who sired the Gr.1 winner Mount Nelson from a SELKIRK mare and the Gr.3 winner Utrecht from a KRIS mare. Desert King also did well with this line, siring the Gr.1 winner Chelsea Rose from a TREMPOLINO mare. This suggests that mares by SWITCH IN TIME, FAMOUS STAR, DIESIS, CREESE, KRIS and KEEN will suit.

The NEVER BEND line is an obvious option, as Desert King sired the brilliant Australian mare Makybe Diva from a RIVERMAN mare and Rock of Gibraltar sired the Gr.2 winner Eagle Mountain from a DARSHAAN mare. BRIEF TRUCE and RIVOTIOUS mares appeal.

The BLUSHING GROOM branch of the NASRULLAH line can hardly fail with Holy Roman Emperor. Flying Spur sired Group winners from daughters of RAHY and NASSIPOUR and this ties in with the Danehill line’s successes with BLUSHING GROOM and RAINBOW QUEST. Daughters of NOVERRE, FANTASTIC LIGHT and SPECTRUM are other sources.

The GREY SOVEREIGN branch is another which merits respect, including mares by such as KENMARE, KENDOR, HIGHEST HONOR and NISHAPOUR.

The MR. PROSPECTOR line warrants serious consideration, as Flying Spur sired a Gr.1 winner from a mare by QUIET AMERICAN. Danehill sired Gr.1 winners from mares by Mr. Prospector’s sons MISWAKI, MACHIAVELLIAN and CONQUISTADOR CIELO. Sources in Australia include HUSSONET, UMATILLA, EL MOXIE, STREET CRY, BELLOTTO, WOODMAN, THUNDER GULCH, STRAIGHT STRIKE, RHYTHM and GEIGER COUNTER.

THATCHING mares have done very well with Danehill. Mares by ARCHWAY, PUISSANCE, RUSTIC AMBER, SEQUALO, TIROL and SHALFORD are other attractive options.

Danehill sired a Gr.1 winner from a ROBERTO mare, plus very smart performers from mares by three sons of ROBERTO, including one from a LEAR FAN mare. Mares by RED RANSOM, SRI PEKAN, AT TALAQ and BROCCO are from this sire line.
