Dylan Thomas
Bay 2003 16.2 hh (1.68 m)
Danehill - Lagrion
Distances won over: 7f. to 12f.
A
6-time Group One winner and the best horse Kieren Fallon ever rode. He's bred on a similar
Danehill/Sharpen Up cross as exceptional sire
Danehill Dancer. Probably the best horse ever by sire of sires
Danehill. And he's a half-brother to the brilliant European Champion 2yo filly
Queen's Logic.
"
Dylan Thomas became the first horse in 35 years of records to run every month from April to September and then win an Arc. That is but part testament to his abilities." Alastair Down, Racing Post, 8th October 2007.
Fee for 2008: $44,000

In particular, Bletchingly line mares are desirable for Dylan Thomas. Danehill’s sire Danzig is from the family of Rockefella, who is already present in Dylan Thomas via his damsire Diesis. BLETCHINGLY is the third well known ancestor from this family. Danzig / Bletchingly crosses are present in Gr.1 winners such as Desert War, Redoute’s Choice, Kusi, Hotel Grand, Outback Prince and Platinum Scissors. CANNY LAD, COSSACK WARRIOR, KENNY’S BEST PAL, STAR WATCH and TRUE VERSIONS are sons of Bletchingly.
Dylan Thomas’ damsire Diesis has also worked with SIR TRISTRAM, producing Gr.1 winner Isolda on this cross. Sir Tristram line broodmare sires include GROSVENOR, ZABEEL, OCTAGONAL, DR. GRACE, WESTMINSTER, DALMACIA, KAAPSTAD and MARAUDING.
Dylan Thomas’ maternal grandsire Sharpen Up has been duplicated in two stakes winners by the similarly bred Danehill Dancer. SW’s Lady Dominatrix and Bright Edge both carry another line to Sharpen Up through their dams. Mares by SWITCH IN TIME, FAMOUS STAR, DIESIS, KRIS and KEEN create this pattern.
BLUSHING GROOM is in the pedigree of Danehill’s Gr.1 winners Peeping Fawn, Arena, Intercontinental, Banks Hill, Light Jig and North Light. Blushing Groom can be sourced in mares by QUEST FOR FAME, FANTASTIC LIGHT, NASSIPOUR, ARAZI, URGENT REQUEST, REDDING, VISCOUNT, SPECTRUM and NOVERRE.
MR. PROSPECTOR line mares are particularly appealing, with Danehill having produced Group 1 winners such as Flying Spur, Shinzig, Ivan Denisovitch, Rumplestiltskin, Landseer, Regal Rose, Laisserfaire, Scintillation and Miss Danehill from Mr. Prospector line mares. Australasian broodmare sires such as RHYTHM, STREET CRY, HUSSONET, WOODMAN, STRAIGHT STRIKE, UMATILLA, GEIGER COUNTER, BELLOTTO, EL MOXIE, JADE ROBBERY, DISTORTED HUMOR, END SWEEP, INFLATE, VETTORI, THUNDER GULCH and SECRET SAVINGS are good candidates.
