Aussie Rules

Aussie Rules is a French 2000 Guineas winner by Danehill out of a Lyphard line mare and so is Clodovil, a leading first-crop sire of 2007. Clodovil sired the Group-winning Nahoodh from an INDIAN RIDGE mare and Aussie Rules will also suit daughters of INDIAN RIDGE, which have produced stakes winners to Danetime, Rock of Gibraltar and Mozart.

AHONOORA worked well with Danehill, and there are also Group winners by sons of Danehill out of daughters of AHONOORA and DON’T FORGET ME. STATOBLEST is also a son of Ahonoora.

As Aussie Rules’ two lines to Northern Dancer will be back in the fourth and fifth generations of his foals’ pedigrees, Aussie Rules is a ready-made mate for mares with more NORTHERN DANCER blood. His sire, Danehill, achieved some of his best results with 3x3 inbreeding to Northern Dancer.

SADLER’S WELLS sired two Gr.1 winners from a half-sister to Aussie Rule’s dam while another half sister has produced a Gr. 1 winner by Sadler’s Wells son, GALILEO.  Other sons include SCENIC, KING OF KINGS, BARATHEA and CARNEGIE.

Mares by NIGHT SHIFT have produced stakes performers to three different sons of Danehill.

BE MY GUEST and his sons rank among the broodmare sires of stakes winners by Danehill’s sons.  Mares by Be My Guest’s sons PENTIRE, PREGO and RAAMI appeal.

The NIJINSKY branch has also had an impact, with Sunline, Redoute’s Choice, Fastnet Rock, Indian Danehill, Johan Cruyff, Spartacus, Platinum Scissors etc bred on this cross. ROYAL ACADEMY, BLETCHLEY PARK, SERHEED, SEA ROAD, WHISKEY ROAD, WESTERN SYMPHONY and YEATS mares appeal.

The SHIRLEY HEIGHTS line merits serious consideration, especially as DARSHAAN sired several important members of Aussie Rules’ flourishing family. Danehill and his sons have sired several stakes winners on this cross.  OAK RIDGE and SINGSPIEL mares carry Shirley Heights.  Singspiel is particularly desirable as his sire In The Wings is by Sadler’s Wells out of a Shirley Heights mare.

The Riverman branch also merits respect, as there are Group winners by sons of Danehill out of daughters of RIVERMAN (Makybe Diva), ROUSILLON (Myboycharlie), IRISH RIVER and EXIT TO NOWHERE.  Other Riverman line broodmare sires in Australasia include BRIEF TRUCE and SANDTRAP.

Mares by SHARPEN UP line stallions have already sired Group winners from daughters of DIESIS, KRIS, SANGLAMORE, SELKIRK, SHARP VICTOR, SHARPO and TREMPOLINO, plus another from a daughter of FLASH OF STEEL. Mares by HALLING, SWITCH IN TIME, KEEN and CREESE also come into the picture.

Other branches of the NATIVE DANCER male line are also working well with sons of Danehill. AFFIRMED, BERING and his sire ARCTIC TERN both figure among the broodmare sires of stakes winners by Danehill’s sons. ZOFFANY and CLEAR CHOICE are also from this line.

The MR. PROSPECTOR branch has been extremely successful with Danehill / Danzig, producing several Group One winners.  Sons and grandsons of Mr. Prospector include HUSSONET, BELLOTTO, EL MOXIE, RHYTHM, STRAIGHT STRIKE and WOODMAN.

BLUSHING GROOM and his son RAINBOW QUEST ranks among the broodmare sires of Danehill’s Gr.1 winners, so it isn’t surprising that his sons ARAZI, MARIGNAN and RAINBOW QUEST figure among the damsires of stakes winners by Danehill’s sons.  Daughters of QUEST FOR FAME, NASSIPOUR, MAROONED, NOVERRE and SPECTRUM appeal.

Mares from the GREY SOVEREIGN line are potentially interesting mates for Aussie Rules. Danehill sired a Gr.1 winner from a KENMARE mare and his sons have sired good winners from daughters of KENMARE, KENDOR and STANDAAN.

Mares by stallions from the FORLI male line have made their mark with other sons of Danehill. Daughters of THATCHING, TIROL, ARCHWAY, PUISSANCE, RUSTIC AMBER, SEQUALOA and SHALFORD provide this line.
