Thunder Gulch sired the CCA Oaks winner Tweedside and the Santa Anita Oaks winner Balance from mares by ROBERTO and Roberto’s son KRIS S. His good daughter Thunder Days is out of a mare by SILVER HAWK, another son of Roberto, so this cross merits serious consideration. He could also suit daughters of Roberto’s son DYNAFORMER.

Inbreeding to RAISE A NATIVE helped provide Thunder Gulch with some of his greatest successes. The Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes winner Point Given is out of a mare by Alydar’s son TURKOMAN and is therefore inbred 4 x 4 (the stakes-winning Class is out of an ALYDAR mare). The fast French colt Mon Pote Le Gitan is inbred 4 x 4 to Raise A Native, with an AFFIRMED mare as his dam. Mares by EASY GOER, ALYSHEBA and SARATOGA SIX merit consideration. With a CONQUISTADOR CIELO mare as his dam, the Kentucky Derby second Invisible Ink is inbred 3 x 3 to Mr. Prospector, while the Gr.3 winner Better Now is inbred 3 x 4, the latter’s dam being a daughter of UNBRIDLED.

Although Thunder Gulch’s dam is a grand-daughter of NORTHERN DANCER, this has proved no obstacle and he has numerous good winners inbred to Northern Dancer in the first four generations. Thunder Gulch’s very successful daughter Mystic Lady is inbred 4 x 3 to Northern Dancer, her dam being by Compliance, a brother to EL GRAN SENOR. Graded winners inbred 4 x 4 to Northern Dancer include Thunder Bertie, whose dam is by Alwuhush, a son of NUREYEV, Stylish, whose dam is by THEATRICAL, another son of NUREYEV, Sense of Style, whose dam is a grand-daughter of NIJINSKY, and Veil of Avalon, whose dam is by the LYPHARD horse ALZAO. The latest advertisement for inbreeding to Northern Dancer through Thunder Gulch is the Gr.1-winning Circular Quay. This winner of the Hopeful Stakes and Louisiana Derby is out of a mare inbred 3 x 4 to Northern Dancer, through DANZIG’s son BELONG TO ME and NIJINSKY’s son SHADEED. Thunder Gulch’s Australian Group winners include Tempest Morn, a Gr.1 winner inbred 4 x 4 to Northern Dancer. The stakes winner Over The Edge and the Group-placed Scottish River are out of STORM CAT mares and are therefore inbred 3 x 3 to Storm Bird.

Four stakes winners by Thunder Gulch have VAGUELY NOBLE blood, through Regal And Royal, Gay Mecene and Vaguely Noble himself.

Thunder Gulch’s half-brother Battleline (by the DAMASCUS horse OGYGIAN) was a leading dirt performer in Japan and Spain’s second dam is by PRIVATE ACCOUNT.
