Holy Roman Emperor

Bay 2004 15.2½ hh (1.58 m)
Danehill – L’On Vite
Distance won over: 6f to 7 f.

"Seven races in little over four months represents a pretty arduous campaign for the two-year-old, especially so when four of those races were in Group 1 company. It is a long time since a juvenile contested the Phoenix Stakes, National Stakes, Grand Criterium and Dewhurst Stakes and considering he produced an improved level of performance each time bears testimony to Holy Roman Emperor’s constitution"
2006 Turform

By the remarkable sire of sires Danehill. Out of a Secretariat mare, like Storm Cat, A.P. Indy, Gone West etc.

His first crop are 2-y-o's of 2010.

Fee for 2010: €17,500

Holy Roman Emperor is inbred 3x3 to the great NORTHERN DANCER. This doesn’t rule out more NORTHERN DANCER blood, as Desert King, Rock of Gibraltar and Exceed And Excel (all inbred 3x3) have all sired very useful winners from daughters of SADLER’S WELLS. Holy Roman Emperor’s first-crop yearlings out of SADLER’S WELLS mares sold for up to €150,000.

Mares by sons of NUREYEV should also suit, as Exceed And Excel has Listed winners out of mares by THEATRICAL, POLAR FALCON and SPINNING WORLD, while Rock of Gibraltar has Listed winners out of daughters of PEINTRE CELEBRE and ATTICUS. Holy Roman Emperor’s close relative Flying Spur sired a Gr.2 winner from a NUREYEV mare. Rock of Gibraltar’s dual 2009 Gr.1 winner Diamondrella is out of a DIXIELAND BAND mare and is therefore inbred 4x4x3. Flying Spur also sired three Group winners from daughters of LAST TYCOON.

The NIJINSKY branch has done well with other sons of Danehill, with ROYAL ACADEMY, CAERLEON and KAHYASI among those with plenty to offer.

Interestingly Rock of Gibraltar sired Group 1 winner Mount Nelson with a second line of DANZIG coming through GREEN DESERT. Danetime’s top 2008 juvenile Bushranger, Dansili’s Gimcrack winner Shaweel and Danehill Dancer’s

very smart performers Alfred Nobel, Walk On Bye and Tamazirte all have dams with GREEN DESERT in the pedigree.

Holy Roman Emperor is likely to do well with the SHARPEN UP line, following the example of Rock of Gibraltar, who sired the Gr.1 winner Mount Nelson from a SELKIRK mare, the Gr.3 winner Utrecht from a KRIS mare and the Gr.3

winner Unilateral from a SHARPEN UP mare. Desert King also did well with this line, siring the Gr.1 winner Chelsea Rose from a TREMPOLINO mare. DIESIS mares provided Danehill with Dylan Thomas and Multidimensional.

The NEVER BEND line is an obvious option, as Desert King sired the brilliant Australian mare Makybe Diva from a RIVERMAN mare and Rock of Gibraltar sired the Gr.1 Hong Kong winner Eagle Mountain from a DARSHAAN mare.

The BLUSHING GROOM branch of the NASRULLAH line can hardly fail with Holy Roman Emperor as it is so successful with Danehill and his sons.

The MR. PROSPECTOR line demands serious consideration. Rock of Gibraltar’s son Varenar, winner of the Gr.1 Prix de la Foret, is out of a MR. PROSPECTOR mare. Danehill sired Gr.1 winners from mares by Mr. Prospector’s sons KINGMAMBO, MISWAKI, MACHIAVELLIAN and CONQUISTADOR CIELO. Mares by grandsons of MR. PROSPECTOR provided Holy Roman Emperor with first-crop yearlings which sold for 400,000gns, €180,000 and €140,000.

The Danzig male line has had some excellent results with mares from the AHONOORA line, producing Cape Cross, Gabr, The Tatling and several other Group winners. Six different sons of Danehill have stakes winners out of INDIAN RIDGE mares.

THATCHING mares have done very well with Danehill and Holy Roman Emperor has a €170,000 yearling out of one. Another fast branch of the Hyperion male line - the SING SING branch - has supplied Danehill Dancer with the very

smart sprinter Monsieur Bond (out of a SONG mare) and the very smart Indesatchel (out of a PETORIUS mare).

Danehill sired a Gr.1 winner from a ROBERTO mare, plus very smart performers from mares by three sons of ROBERTO. Desert King and Danehill Dancer also sired Group winners from LEAR FAN mares.
