Any breeder looking for a Gr.1 winner with a truly exceptional pedigree need look no further than Thewayyouare. With Kingmambo as his sire and a Sadler’s Wells mare as his dam, this winner of the prestigious Criterium International is one of six major winners produced by this cross, others being the European classic winners Henrythenavigator, Divine Proportions and Virginia Waters and the Japanese superstar El Condor Pasa. But that’s not all. Thewayyouare, who won his last four races as a juvenile, is a half-brother to the magnificent Danehill filly Peeping Fawn, a winner of four consecutive Gr.1 races in 2007. Their dam Maryinsky could hardly be better connected. As a daughter of the Kentucky Oaks winner Blush With Pride, Maryinsky is a half-sister to the exceptional broodmare Better Than Honor, who found fame as the dam of the Belmont Stakes winners Rags To Riches and Jazil. The next dam in this famous female line is Best In Show, who ranked as the second dam of the brilliant racehorse and sire El Gran Senor. The outstanding Australian stallion Redoute’s Choice is another member of the Best in Show family.

As DANEHILL sired a multiple Gr.1 winner from Thewayyouare’s dam and the top Australian stallion Redoute’s Choice from the same family, this should be the first line of attack for European breeders. Mares by DANEHILL create foals inbred 5x4x4 to Northern Dancer, with four lines to Natalma. Other sons of Kingmambo have a Gr.1 winner with a GREEN DESERT dam and a Gr.2 winner (the 2011 two-year-old Family One) out of a grand-daughter of GREEN DESERT. They also have three Gr.3 winners from daughters of DANZIG. Others have sired Graded winners out of daughters of BOUNDARY and SHAADI.

There are numerous options for Thewayyouare from this line, including daughters of DANEHILL DANCER, DANSILI, DANETIME, ROCK OF GIBRALTAR, GRAND LODGE, CAPE CROSS, OASIS DREAM, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT and DESERT STYLE.

The NIJINSKY branch of the Northern Dancer line provided Kingmambo with some of his most talented offspring, with NIJINSKY, NINISKI, CAERLEON and ROYAL ACADEMY all featuring in his success story. His son King’s Best has two Group winners out of a CAERLEON mare.

Kingmambo is out of Nureyev’s brilliant daughter Miesque and inbreeding to the exceptionally successful NUREYEV may pay dividends.

Mares bred on the Kingmambo-Sadler’s Wells nick have produced the Gr.1 winner Miss World to BERNSTEIN, as well as the Gr.3 winner Eightfold Path and the Listed winner Emperor Claudius to GIANT’S CAUSEWAY. This suggests that Thewayyouare has a bright future with mares by sons of STORM CAT. Mares by BLUEBIRD, SHAMARDAL and FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND could also suit him.

Another son of Kingmambo has sired Group winners from mares by AHONOORA and INDIAN RIDGE, so this line is well worth trying with Thewayyouare.

As he was by Mr Prospector, Kingmambo didn’t have much scope for mares from this exceptional line, but two of his sons have sired Group winners from grand-daughters of MR PROSPECTOR, by GONE WEST and GEIGER COUNTER. These winners are inbred 3x3. This suggests that Thewayyouare could be considered for mares by such as SEEKING THE GOLD, WOODMAN, GONE WEST and MISWAKI, but mares by grandsons of Mr Prospector are a more likeable option, with ZAFONIC, ZAMINDAR, NAYEF and MEDICEAN among the options.

Mares with some NEVER BEND blood should also be considered for Thewayyouare. El Condor Pasa’s first winner of the Japan Cup Dirt, Alondite, is out of a RIVERMAN mare and Big Grass, another of his high-class Japanese horses, is out of a mare by Ibn Bey, a son of MILL REEF. King’s Best has sired Gr.1 and Gr.3 winners from daughters of IRISH RIVER. MILL REEF and his son SHIRLEY HEIGHTS appear in the pedigrees of some of Kingmambo’s Gr.1 winners out of Sadler’s Wells mares and Kingmambo’s Oaks winner Light Shift is out of a SHIRLEY HEIGHTS mare. Other sons of Kingmambo have Group winners out of mares by DARSHAAN and his sons MARK OF ESTEEM and ZAYYANI.

The similarly-bred El Condor Pasa sired several Group winners in Japan during his short life. He did well with mares by SUNDAY SILENCE and with SILVER HAWK. The HAIL TO REASON line clearly suited El Condor Pasa, and Thewayyouare can be expected to do well with mares by RED RANSOM, ROBELLINO, DR FONG, INTIKHAB, DYNAFORMER, KRIS S. and LEAR FAN.
