The potency of Henrythenavigator’s bloodlines is highlighted by the fact that he is one of five Gr.1 winners sired by Kingmambo from daughters of the great Sadler’s Wells. Among the others are two other classic winners, in Divine Proportions and Virginia Waters, and the Japanese superstar El Condor Pasa, who went close to beating Montjeu in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. There are also Gr.1 winners out of Sadler’s Wells mares by Kingmambo’s brother Miesque’s Son and Kingmambo’s sons King’s Best and Dubai Destination.
El Condor Pasa died young, but not before he had sired several Group winners in Japan, including 6-time Gr.1 winner Vermilion and Alondite, both of which won the Japan Cup Dirt-Gr.1. He did well with mares by SUNDAY SILENCE, a son of HALO. Among his winners bred this way were the classic-winning Song of Wind, the Gr.1 dirt winner Vermilion and the Gr.3 winner Rapid Orange. Tokai Trick, who was third in the prestigious Tenno Sho (Spring), is out of a daughter of SILVER HAWK. The HAIL TO REASON line clearly suited El Condor Pasa, and Henrythenavigator is likely to do well with mares by DYNAFORMER, KRIS S., LEAR FAN, RED RANSOM, SAINT BALLADO, DEVIL’S BAG and CURE THE BLUES. Mambo Jambo, a mare by Kingmambo out of a Sadler’s Wells mare, produced the champion English filly Ocean Silk to DYNAFORMER. Kingmambo’s Gr.1-winning son Student Council is out of a KRIS S. mare.
Other mares bred on the Kingmambo-Sadler’s Wells nick have produced the Gr.1 winner Miss World to BERNSTEIN and the Group-placed 2009 two-year-old Eightfold Path to GIANT’S CAUSEWAY. This suggests that Henrythenavigator has a bright future with mares by sons of STORM CAT, such as TALE OF THE CAT, HENNESSY and GIANT’S CAUSEWAY.
The NIJINSKY branch of the Northern Dancer line has provided Kingmambo with some of his most talented offspring. Nijinsky himself sired the dams of the Gr.1 winners Russian Rhythm and Archipenko, and one of his daughters produced the Gr.2 winner Oiseau Rare to King’s Best. The Japan Cup winner Alkaased is out of a daughter of NINISKI, while the St Leger winner Rule of Law has a ROYAL ACADEMY mare as his dam. Kingmambo sired the Australian Gr.1 winner Tawqeet from a CAERLEON mare.
The DANZIG branch has also enjoyed success with Kingmambo and his sons. Among the stallions involved are DANZIG (broodmare sire of the Gr.1 winner Voodoo Dancer), CHIEF’S CROWN, DANEHILL, DANZIG CONNECTION, GREEN DESERT (broodmare sire of Graded winners by Kingmambo and Lemon Drop Kid) and SHAADI. El Condor Pasa, a horse bred on the same cross as Henrythenavigator, sired the dual 2009 Gr.3 winner Sakura Orion from a DANZIG mare.
Kingmambo’s Gr.2 winner Royal Oath is inbred 3x3 to NUREYEV, King Cugat’s Gr.3 winner Kingship is inbred 4x3, the second line coming through THEATRICAL, and Lemon Drop Kid’s Gr.2 winner Bear’s Kid is also inbred 4x3.
Lemon Drop Kid has several Graded winners inbred to MR. PROSPECTOR, including a Gr.3 winner inbred 3x3. This suggests that Henrythenavigator could be considered for mares by such as SEEKING THE GOLD, WOODMAN, GONE WEST, MISWAKI and FORTY NINER. However, mares by grandsons of Mr. Prospector are a more likeable option, with DISTORTED HUMOR, ELUSIVE QUALITY, GRAND SLAM, MR GREELEY and STREET CRY among the prime candidates.
SEATTLE SLEW mares have two Gr.1 winners by Kingmambo, including Lemon Drop Kid, and mares by Seattle Slew’s son CAPOTE have stakes winners by Kingmambo and Lemon Drop Kid.
El Condor Pasa’s first winner of the Japan Cup Dirt, Alondite, is out of a RIVERMAN mare and Big Grass, another of his high-class Japanese dirt horses, is out of a mare by Ibn Bey, a son of MILL REEF. Kingmambo’s Oaks winner Light Shift is out of a SHIRLEY HEIGHTS mare.
Kingmambo’s Japanese Gr.1 winner Star King Man is out of a BLUSHING GROOM mare.
MEADOWLAKE sired the dam of I’ll Love Again, a high-class sprinter-miler by El Condor Pasa.
The RIBOT line has also contributed to the success of Kingmambo, who has Graded winners out of daughters of ALLEGED and HIS MAJESTY. Mares by PLEASANT COLONY and PLEASANT TAP have done well with Lemon Drop Kid.
PRIVATE ACCOUNT mares produced the classic winner Bluemamba and the Gr.3 winner Rey de Café to Kingmambo.
The SHARPEN UP line is another which merits consideration, as Kingmambo sired Stakes winners from mares by the brothers KRIS, KEEN and DIESIS.
