Scat Daddy represents a blend of America’s most successful bloodlines. He follows Johannesburg, Hennessy, Storm Cat and Storm Bird as the fifth consecutive generation of his male line to have won at Gr.1 level at two. Inheriting his male line’s precocity, Scat Daddy first revealed his considerable talent when winning in fast time on his debut in early June and he went on to land the Gr.2 Sanford Stakes over 6 furlongs and the Gr.1 Champagne Stakes over a mile. Scat Daddy was more than just a top-class juvenile, though, as he showed by taking the Gr.2 Fountain of Youth Stakes and Gr.1 Florida Derby over a mile and an eighth at three.

His dam Love Style - by Mr. Prospector out of a Gr.1-winning Nijinsky mare - is bred on the same pattern as seven Graded winners. Scat Daddy is inbred 4x2 to Mr. Prospector, who achieved multiple championships as a sire, 2yo sire and broodmare sire, and 5x4 to the similarly exceptional Northern Dancer.

Although he is inbred to Mr. Prospector, he is likely to suit mares by Mr. Prospector’s grandsons, such as QUIET AMERICAN, UNBRIDLED, DISTORTED HUMOR, END SWEEP, ELUSIVE QUALITY, GRAND SLAM, MR GREELEY, STREET CRY and SMOKE GLACKEN. Adding more Mr. Prospector blood appeals in view of the considerable success that Johannesburg, Hennessy and Storm Cat have all enjoyed with mares from this line. Mares from the ALYDAR branch of the RAISE A NATIVE line are also serious contenders, in view of their success with Storm Cat and Hennessy.

More Northern Dancer blood is also likely to suit Scat Daddy, as his two lines will be well back in the pedigrees of his foals. Scat Daddy’s sire Johannesburg has sired two good performers from mares by Danzig’s son BOUNDARY and others from mares by DANEHILL and BELONG TO ME.

As STORM CAT headed the general sires’ list on two occasions and was champion sire of juveniles six times, breeders may also consider inbreeding to the great Overbrook stallion through Scat Daddy. Mares by Storm Cat’s sons, such as FOREST WILDCAT, FORESTRY, GIANT’S CAUSEWAY and STORMY ATLANTIC, produce 4x3 inbreeding to Storm Cat. Johannesburg has a Stakes winner inbred 3x3 to Storm Cat.

DEVIL’S BAG sired the dam of one of Johannesburg’s Graded winners and the second dam of another. Mares by Roberto’s sons, such as DYNAFORMER, KRIS S., RED RANSOM and SILVER HAWK, also merit consideration. El Corredor, another stallion inbred to Mr. Prospector, has a Gr.1 winner out of a mare by a son of Kris S.

Breeders can also be confident that Scat Daddy will be a good match for the SEATTLE SLEW line, including daughters of A.P. INDY and CAPOTE. Mares by A.P. Indy’s son PULPIT would also be interesting, as they produce a pedigree containing the very successful sisters Yarn and Preach.
