Turf Express Goes Two for Two

29th November 2008

Highly regarded colt Turf Express (2c Danehill Dancer  x Newscaster, by Marscay) made it two wins from as many starts when he won the open juvenile event over 1150 metres at Randwick on Saturday on the Kensington track.

Ridden hard from the gates, the powerful chestnut son of Danehill Dancer (IRE) found the lead and then fought off all challengers in the straight to win by the best part of a length for the Gai Waterhouse stable.

“I thought it was a good tough victory,” assistant trainer Tania Rouse said.

“He keeps improving and will improve again.

“He was made to do plenty of work today but he kept on giving and to an extent he only does what he has to do.”

Turf Express will remain in work and have one more run before a short break in preparation for the better races in the autumn.

Raced by his breeder, Henry Cojuangco, brother to Gooree Stud boss Eduardo, Turf Express is the second foal of the moderately performed Marscay mare Newscaster who has since produced a Choisir yearling filly but was not served last season.

Like so many of the Gooree owned mares, Newscaster traces to a major American female family claiming Northern Dancer’s dam Natalma as her fourth dam.

An accomplished source of Group One winners worldwide, Coolmore based Danehill Dancer has 20 yearlings catalogued for the Magic Millions Yearling Sale (Sessions One to Five)
