New Aussie Stakes-Winner for Fupeg
6th November 2008
Master trainer Bart Cummings has been in rare form this week and added another Cup to the resume when Blessus (6g Fusaichi Pegasus x Blessed Be, by Brief Truce) took out the Listed 2008 Share Yalumba Cup over 1300 metres at Hawkesbury on Thursday.A tough and consistent competitor who is never far away, Blessus turned in his usual good effort finding the line strongly to claim his first Black Type success.
A $225,000 purchase from the 2004 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Blessus was bred by Bart Cummings and consigned under his Princes Farm banner, his breeder electing to retain a share in the ownership.
One of three winners for ill-fated mare Blessed Be who sadly passed away this spring, Blessus is a half-brother to stakes-placed God’s Hand and is the first stakes-winner for his dam.
Another Cummings bred product, Blessed Be was a half-sister by Brief Truce to Australian Horse of the Year Saintly, stakes-winner Glide Away and HK star Aucash.
A son of Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, Blessus has won six races from 26 starts earning close to $280,000 in prizemoney.
The last Australian foals by Coolmore based Fusaichi Pegasus are arriving this spring, while his champion son Haradasun has been busy at Coolmore headquarters in the Hunter Valley covering his first stellar book of mares.
