French Group Three Winner for Joburg

5th November 2008

Improving filly Stefer (2f Johannesburg x Ardere, by El Prado) showed plenty of fight to score a narrow victory in the Group Three Prix Miesque at Maisons-Laffitte on Tuesday.

A maiden winner over this course and distance on October 11, the David Smaga trained filly handled the rise in grade with ease, settling back in the field before charging home with great determination to snatch a head win in the seven furlong event.

Owned by Wafic Said, Stefer has now won two races and placed once from just four starts and becomes the 20th stakes-winner worldwide for former champion juvenile Johannesburg.

Stefer is from the El Prado mare Ardere, a daughter of Group Three winner Flaming Torch.

Stefer is one of six Graded winners in the Northern Hemisphere for Johannesburg in 2008 joining Group One winners Sageburg as well as Eaton’s Gift, Looky Yonder, African Skies and Ten Meropa.
