Group One Double for Dehere Mares

3rd November 2008

At age 17, Dehere is probably now in the category of veteran shuttle sire, but his influence seems likely to be felt for a long time through his daughters given Group One wins at Flemington on Saturday for Rebel Raider (3c Reset x Picholine, by Dehere) and Forensics (4m Flying Spur x Prove It, by Dehere).

A champion two year-old in North America and son of the Northern Dancer line stallion Deputy Minister, Dehere has been a regular visitor to Australia since 1995.

Dehere’s popularity in Australia has waxed and waned reflecting the performances of his offspring, which include Group One stars such as Belle Du Jour, Defier and Bollinger.

With 27 stakes-winners worldwide as a broodmare sire, Dehere is increasingly being seen as an influential force in that area with triple Group One winner Forensics and Victoria Derby hero Rebel Raider, joining Group One Breeders Cup Sprint winner Midnight Lute and a host of others.
