Third Winner for Fastnet Rock

1st November 2008

Former champion sprinter Fastnet Rock posted his third winner at Rosehill on Saturday when the heavily backed favourite Wanted (2c Fastnet Rock x Fragmentation, by Snippets) powered to the line to score a stylish victory.

The John Hawkes trained Wanted settled off the pace in the third position and unleashed a strong finishing burst to cruise home and take the 1100 metre open juvenile event by more than a length.

“What a beautiful horse,” said winning jockey Allan Robinson.

“And he’s a typical Hawkes horse. He’s beautiful. I’m not exaggerating when I say he’ll improve six to 10 lengths on that run, he’s got massive potential.”

Bred and offered for sale by Ron and Debbie Gilbert’s Highgrove Stud, Wanted was knocked down to John Hawkes for $800,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale making him the equal most expensive yearling sired by Fastnet Rock this year.

Wanted is the second foal of the stakes-winning Snippets mare Fragmentation, whose dam is a sister to stakes-winner In The Mist, dam of Group Two winner De Lago Mist.

Fragmentation was covered again last season by Fastnet Rock, who has now had three winners with Wanted joining Zikmann and San Cristobel.
