Joburg Winner for Balcanny

29th October 2008

Outstanding producer Balcanny featured as the dam of her seventh winner at Geelong on Wednesday when Outcrop (3g Johannesburg x Balcanny, by Canny Lad) made a winning debut for the Lloyd Williams stable.

Sent out favourite, the John Sadler trained gelding cruised clear to take the 1418 metre maiden by the best part of two lengths in a stylish performance.

A $100,000 purchase for Nick Williams from the Swettenham Stud draft at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Outcrop is the ninth foal of the Canny Lad mare Balcanny, renowned as the dam of Group Two winner Blur, Group Three winner Shrewd Rhythm and this season’s stakes-placed juvenile filly Dancescape.

Balcanny was sold earlier in the year with Patinack Farm purchasing the mare for $250,000 at the Inglis Broodmare Sale with a positive test to Fastnet Rock.

She has since produced a lovely bay colt from the mating, the youngster a three-quarter sibling to Balcanny’s three stakes performers who are all by sons of Danehill as is Fastnet Rock.
