New Group Three Winner for Giant

Late bloomer Sunshine for Life (4m Giant’s Causeway x Millions Stories, by Exclusive Native) was making her first appearance in a Black Type event in the Group Three Athenia Stakes at Belmont on Saturday and emerged a winner.

The Richard Schosberg trained mare led throughout to win the 1 and 1/16th mile event on turf by half a length taking her overall record to four wins and two placings from 11 starts with prizemoney in excess of $200,000.

Her performance has connections looking towards another Black Type assignment with the Group Three Long Island Handicap at Aqueduct on November 1 a likely target.

Bred by Buckram Oak Farm, Sunshine for Life was a $385,000 weanling purchase from the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November Sale and is raced by Jane Schosberg.

Sunshine for Life is a half-sister to Group Three winner Turok being from the Exclusive Native mare Million Stories, a half-sister to French Group One winner Pearl Bracelet.

Sunshine for Life is yet another stakes-winner for outstanding sire Giant’s Causeway, who is enjoying a vintage year with some 18 stakes-winners in North America where he is the second leading sire by overall earnings.
