Montjeu Colts Top Tattersalls October
10th October 2008
A pair of colts by Sadlers Wells’ outstanding sire son Montjeu provided the highlights at the 2008 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale sharing top honours when knocked down on Wednesday and Thursday for 650,000 guineas apiece. The top price on the second day of the sale was Lot 294, the bay colt (pictured) by Montjeu out of the Alysheba mare Vanishing Prairie, consigned from Caroline Green’s Templeton Stud on behalf of Marcel and Sibylle Egloff’s Gestut Sohrenhof in Switzerland.
Secured by John Magnier, the cracking colt is a half-brother to dual Group One winner Vespone and the Melbourne Cup runner-up Purple Moon.
Setting the standard on the last day of the sale was Lot 459, a stylish grey Montjeu colt from former good Danehill racemare Danaskaya, who was Group One placed in the Cheveley Park Stakes and Champion two-year-old filly in Ireland in 2002.
Consigned from John O’Conner’s Ballylinch Stud, the grey colt was purchased by Peter Doyle Bloodstock acting on behalf of former Abba singer Benny Anderson.
Anderson, who was sitting alongside his bloodstock advisor Peter Doyle, had to withstand the efforts of Saleh Al Homaizi, the Kuwait based businessman who bought Derby winner Authorized, also by Montjeu, at this sale in 2005.
Anderson indicated the colt will go into training with John Dunlop at Castle Stables in Arundel.
