US Mare Completes Stakes Treble for Cat
5th October 2008
Tale of the Cat featured with a Southern Hemisphere stakes double on Saturday and quickly made it a stakes treble with a win for Queen of the Catsle (4m Tale of the Cat x Kiawah Queen, by Lord at War) in the Group Three Senator Ken Maddy Handicap at Santa Anita. The Howard Zucker trained mare was content to race midfield and then warmed to the task in the home straight moving up to challenge and then surging clear to win the six and a half furlong contest on turf by a length.
A home bred for C T Grether Inc, Queen of the Catsle has been a model of consistency with an overall record of five wins and five seconds from 12 starts with prizemoney of $258,784.
From the unraced Lord at War mare Kiawah Queen, Queen of the Catsle is the first stakes-winner in her immediate family going back through the first three dams so is a clear example of Tale of the Cat’s ability to upgrade his mares.
Tale of the Cat has progeny earnings in North America this year close to $6 million placing him sixth on the leading sires list.
