Group Three for Grand Adventure
5th October 2008
Talented colt Grand Adventure (2c Grand Slam x Val Marie, by Coronado’s Quest) made it two wins from as many starts when he took out the Group Three Summer Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday. An easy winner on debut at this course on August 30, the Mark Frostad trained colt handled the class rise into stakes company and looks a bright prospect.
Allowed to settle into stride in fourth place several lengths from the lead, the dark bay ranged up impressively with a seven-wide move entering the stretch and looked certain to score an easy win before jockey Eurico Da Silva dropped his stick.
As a result the fast finishing Skipadate came with a late run that made for an interesting finish with Grand Adventure prevailing to win the one mile contest on turf by a head.
A $75,000 purchase from the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Sale, Grand Adventure is from the Coronado’s Quest mare Val Marie, a daughter of a full sister to four-time Group One winning filly Lakeway, whose many wins included the Holllywood Oaks and Santa Anita Oaks.
Grand Adventure is the 43rd stakes-winner for Grand Slam, who has progeny earnings in North America this year in excess of $5million placing him 11th on the general sires list.
