Stakes Success for Unbeaten Gold Rum

Talented New Zealand based four year-old Gold Rum (4g Golan x Gold Class, by Gold Brose) made it three wins from as many starts when he captured the Listed Taranaki RC Linepower Handicap over 1400 metres at New Plymouth on Saturday.

The Graham Thomas trained Gold Rum prevailed in a tight finish to score by a half head over Abbey Way (4g Encosta de Lago x Forlorna, by Nashwan).

Passed in when offered at the 2006 NZB Select Sale, Gold Rum is from stakes-placed Gold Brose mare Gold Class, whose extended family includes American stakes-winners Mo Dinero and Calendar Girl.

Gold Rum is by dual Group One winner Golan who shuttled to New Zealand for a number of seasons leaving last year’s Group One VRC Victoria Derby winner Kibbutz and is now on the National Hunt roster at Coolmore Ireland.
