First Stakes Success for Sara’s Choice

27th September 2008

It’s always good to cast off maiden status and particularly so when it’s in a Black Type event as happened for talented filly Sara’s Choice (3f Choisir  x Momentous Ride, by Puissance) in the Listed AJC Reginald Allen Handicap at Randwick on Saturday.

Placed at two of her three previous runs since resuming from a spell, split by a nasty fall in the Group Three AJC Silver Shadow Stakes behind Samantha Miss, Sara’s Choice was overdue for a win and few would begrudge her success.

Restrained just behind the leaders by Corey Brown, the Kevin Moses trained Sara’s Choice (pictured in white and red colours) dashed quickly when she finally saw daylight to claim the 1400 metre contest by a long head over Intuit and Maybe I.

“She fell two starts back and to come back like this - it’s very, very good,” Moses said.

“For her to stop like she did today and then get going again, it shows how much confidence she has. She wanted to win, and she did.

“She wasn’t an expensive filly and she’s done well for the owners [the prolific Cloros family], so we might try to find a race in Melbourne for her.”

Sara’s Choice was a $25,000 purchase from the draft of Southern Cross Breeders at the 2007 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for Freyer Bloodstock on behalf of the Cloros family, who have been enjoying much success of late with in-form staying mare Bianca.

Bred by Ross Warnock of Flame Tree Stud, Sara’s Choice is the fifth foal of the Puissance mare Momentous Ride, a half-sister to Group Two placed Fetes Galantes from the family of Group One winner Just Now and Shiva’s Revenge.

Sara’s Choice becomes the tenth stakes-winner worldwide for Coolmore based Choisir, who stands at the value fee of $33,000.
