Choisir and Tale of the Cat Provide Trial Stars

19th September 2008

Standouts at the Randwick two year-old barrier trials on Friday morning were Horizons (2f Choisir x Ubiquity, by Hurricane Sky) and Real Saga (2cTale of the Cat x Windy Kate, by Air Express), the fastest filly and colt on show.

A $120,000 purchase for Star Thoroughbreds from the Attunga Stud draft at Magic Millions, Horizons (pictured as a yearling) looked ultra professional in doing everything right and dashing well clear to win her 850 metre trial by six and a quarter lengths in 50.24 seconds.

A stylish bay filly in the mould of a Hurried Choice, also by Choisir, the Gai Waterhouse trained Horizons is the first living foal of Ubiquity, a full sister to Group Three AJC Liverpool City Cup winner Continuum.

Horizons set the standard for the day recording the fastest time of the session and looks a readymade racehorse for the early spring fillies races.

The fastest colt tostep out at Randwick was the John Hawkes trained Real Saga, a powerful bay son of Tale of the Cat and stakes-placed mare Windy Kate.

He bolted in by five lengths and clocked 50.97 seconds in a thoroughly impressive display.

Retained to race by his breeders, Real Saga is the only foal of Air Express mare Windy Kate, who died in 2007.
