First Aussie Foals for Holy Roman Emperor
18th September 2008
If ever a stallion was born to be a shuttle sire then it’s surely Holy Roman Emperor, a dual Group One winning juvenile by legendary sire Danehill from the family of Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur. From the first day he went to the races in 2006, Holy Roman Emperor has been a name familiar to Australian breeders as we followed his progress from debut juvenile winner to Group One success.
A full brother to Australian Group Three winner Milanova, Holy Roman Emperor would undoubtedly have added to his record if given the opportunity at three, but the fertility problems encountered by his Coolmore barn mate George Washington necessitated his premature retirement to take his place.
The first Australian bred foals by Holy Roman Emperor are starting to arrive following his late departure from quarantine last spring as a result of EI and include this colt (pictured above) from Laya’s Wonder, foaled at Coolmore on September 6.
He is the fifth foal of his imported dam Laya’s Wonder, who is an unraced mare by Woodman from Group One winning sprinter Lyric Fantasy.
Holy Roman Emperor covered 131 mares last spring and another of his early arrivals is the bay colt foaled on September 4 at Ashleigh Thoroughbreds from the young Geiger Counter mare Miss Radiant, a half-sister to Group One winner Electrique.
Much admired at the recent Coolmore open day, Holy Roman Emperor stands at the same fee this year of $44,000.
