Aussie Trial Winner for One Cool Cat

16th September 2008

Young shuttle sire One Cool Cat has sired some 18 first crop winners in Europe this year led by stakes-winners Icesolator, Knavesmire, Smokey Storm and Diglett, so it was no surprise to see him feature with an early juvenile trial winner at Rosehill on Tuesday morning.

The David Payne trained Winter King took the 900 metre trial by a length over Dalleth (2f Fastnet Rock x Bold Demand, by Red Ransom) in the time of 54.26 seconds with regally bred colt Speedskater (2c Encosta de Lago x Skates, by Danehill) some three lengths back in third place.

A $175,000 purchase from the draft of Wellfield Lodge at the 2008 NZB Premier Yearling Sale for renowned judge Les Samba, Winter King is raced by Mr Samba and Ron Medich, the pair tasting success at the weekend with another of their purchases in Cups contender Guillotine.

Winter King is a half-brother to stakes-winning sprinter How Good is He from the Bletchingly mare So Special, a daughter of Group Two winner Rebecca Gay.

Shuttling from Coolmore Ireland in the Northern Hemisphere to Cambridge Stud in New Zealand, One Cool Cat is standing this spring at a fee of $15,000.
