Peintre Celebre filly impressive G2 winner

14th September 2008

The John Oxx-trained Katiyra (3f Peintre Celebre-Katiykha, by Darshaan) was a hugely impressive four-length winner of the G2 Irish National Stud Blandford Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday.

The Aga Khan’s home-bred Peintre Celebre filly, who finished third in the G1 Oaks in June, looked to be better than ever as she stormed clear of her rivals in the 10-furlong event under Mick Kinane.

"She’s stepped up from Group 3 to Group 2 so the natural progression now is Group 1," said Oxx. "We’ll probably go to Longchamp for the G1 Prix de l’Opera."

In second place was Peintre’s Celebre’s maternal granddaughter Beach Bunny (3f High Chaparral-Miss Hawai, by Peintre Celebre), who began a good day for High Chaparral as he went on to sire the G1 Ladbrokes St Leger runner-up Unsung Heroine (3f High Chaparral-Thermopylae, by Tenby).
