Hurried Choice Cracks Half a Million
13th September 2008
Quality sprinting mare Hurried Choice (4m Choisir x Hustle Bustle, by Catrail) made the most of her light weight in the Group Two STC Theo Marks Stakes over 1300 metres at Rosehill on Saturday, leading her rivals a merry dance and then refusing to give in.
The powerful bay daughter of champion sprinter Choisir pulled out all the stops to defeat Golden Slipper winner Forensics by half a neck in taking her record to five wins from 15 starts with prizemoney of $503,550.
“Today she was fitter than they were and that was the only way we were going to beat them,” said winning trainer David Payne.
“So I gave Jeff (Lloyd)a rev up before the race and said make sure you get her out and make them run.
A stakes-winner of the Listed AJC Gimcrack Stakes as a juvenile, four year-old Hurried Choice has only improved with maturity taking the Group Two AJC Challenge Stakes last autumn with David Payne indicating a tilt at the Group One VRC Myer Classic in Melbourne could be on the agenda.
One of a string of recent winners sired by young sire Choisir, Hurried Choice was secured by Payne for $150,000 from the draft of Bellerive Stud at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and is raced by Markus Jooste.
Hurried Choice is the first foal of Hustle Bustle, an unraced half-sister by Catrail to former smart stakes-winning filly Miss Bussell.
Hurried Choice is the second Group winner for Choisir this season joining three year-old colt Dreamscape (3c Choisir x Faith in Dreams, by Ferdinand) , who ran a good race for third to Predatory Pricer in the Listed STC Ming Dynasty Quality at just his second race start.
