Brilliant Win for Stanton
10th September 2008
Exciting three year-old Stanton (3g Choisir x Sandy Lane, by Spinning World) delivered a knockout blow to the much vaunted Redoute’s Choice colt Dancefloor Prodigy in the Ratings 72 event over 1200 metres at Sandown on Wednesday.A bold flashy chestnut, the John Sadler trained and Lloyd Williams owned Stanton crossed quickly from an outside draw and skipped away in the straight after leading for home, going on to score by nearly three lengths in taking his record to two wins from as many starts.
“He travelled enormous in the run and I knew he had plenty left for a kick at the end of the race,” said winning rider Steve Arnold.
“He goes along at a nice tempo and then can really quicken, so that’s going to win him a lot of races.”
An $80,000 purchase for Nick Williams from the draft of Oakford Thoroughbred Farm at the 2007 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Stanton (pictured as a yearling) is the third foal of an unraced Spinning World mare in Sandy Lane, who is a grand-daughter of Irish stakes-winner Inishdalla.
Choisir was the leading second crop sire in Australia last season by individual winners and has started the season in a similar vein with 11 winners since August 1.
