Jabal Tarik on Country Cups Trail

10th September 2008

Progressive gelding Jabal Tarik (4g Rock of Gibraltar x Marooned Lady, by Marooned) returned to the winners list at Sandown on Wednesday when saluting in the Ratings 82 event over 1500 metres.

Just off the better three year-olds in the autumn, the Lee Freedman trained Jabal Tarik looks set for a good campaign and now has the overall record of four wins and four placings from 16 starts with prizemoney in excess of $80,000.

“We’ve always had a good opinion of him and sent him to Sydney in the autumn where he ran fourth in the Group Two Tulloch Stakes,” said Lee Freedman.

“He’s a progressive sort and we’re looking at some of the country cups for him this spring."

An $800,000 purchase for Katsumi Yoshida from the Coolmore draft at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Jabal Tarik is the eighth foal of celebrated producer Marooned Lady, whose other superior offspring include Special Harmony, a winner of 10 races including three Group Ones and $1.8 million in prizemoney, as well as Group Two winners Redwoldt and King Canute.

Marooned Lady has a yearling filly by Galileo and was covered last spring by Jabal Tarik’s sire Rock of Gibraltar.
