Gooree Bred Winners Impress

4th September 2008

Provincial racing at Ballarat and Wyong on Thursday produced a couple of progressive three year-old winners in Percussive (3f Encosta de Lago x So Striking, by Pre-Emptive Strike) and Champagne Harmony (3f Choisir x Hansuyen, by Zabeel), both bred by Gooree Stud.

The Peter Snowden trained filly Percussive chased home classy gelding Desuetude at her last start in the Group Three STC Run to the Roses and appreciated a drop back to maiden company for this easier assignment.

Sent out a hot favourite for the 1350 metre maiden, she got the nod in a tight finish over Gypsy Googol with some four lengths back to the third place-getter.

An $800,000 purchase for Woodlands Stud from the Widden draft at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Percussive (pictured as a yearling) is now raced by Sheikh Mohammed and is a half-sister to former brilliant two year-old Royal Courtship, winner of the Group Two STC Todman Stakes.

Scoring an impressive win on debut at Ballarat was the Choisir filly Champagne Harmony, who also started favourite for trainer Mark Kavanagh and ploughed through the heavy conditions to take the 1100 metre maiden by a length and a half from Apache Cat’s half-sister Tennessee Charm.

Raced by the Harmonious Syndicate, Champagne Harmony was a $360,000 purchase from the Widden draft at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and is the first foal of the Zabeel mare Hansuyen, a full sister to multiple Group One winners Champagne and St Reims.

Gooree Stud are enjoying a great run of success at present with horses they’ve bred to race such as Dreamscape and Ashikaga, as well as horses they’ve sold including Group One winner Typhoon Zed.
