Champion Sire Award for Encosta

The achievements of outstanding sire Encosta de Lago were recognized at the Australian Horse of the Year awards in Melbourne on Monday evening when he was crowned Champion Sire for 2007/2008.

Encosta de Lago was leading sire by earnings ($10.4 million), by individual winners (132) and individual stakes-winners (12), dominating his peers in resounding fashion.

In a benchmark season for Encosta de Lago he was also represented by a Group One winner in New Zealand in Princess Coup, the champion sprinter in Hong Kong in Sacred Kingdom and an unbeaten Group winning juvenile in South Africa in Merlene de Lago.
