10th Group One Winner for Danehill Dancer
1st September 2008
Danehill Dancer has been riding the crest of a wave over the last month and posted his tenth Group One winner worldwide at The Curragh on Sunday when the David Wachman trained filly Again (3f Danehill DAncer x Cumbres, by Kahyasi) took the Moyglare Stud Stakes over seven furlongs.Backing up from a last start victory in the Group Two Debutante Stakes, Again settled back in the field and then weaved a passage through, powering to the line to win by half a length over Storm Cat filly Shimah with another Danehill Dancer in Beyond Our Reach in third place.
With regular jockey Wayne Lordan serving a suspension, Again was partnered by Seamus Heffernan, who handled the filly a treat.
"She's a nice filly and Seamie gave her a great ride. "I was very concerned this run may have come a bit too quickly for her, but she did it really nicely,” said David Wachman.
"She's really a horse for next year because she's still big and weak — she's going to make an exciting three-year-old. I feel sorry for Wayne Lordan, who does all her home-work and is suspended, but Seamie's the super-sub."
Racing Post offered up the following assessment: She appreciated what was a generous gallop and weaved her way into the race from the two pole. She quickened up well and despite drifting to her right with 200yds to go, she was always holding the runner up and is generally a 10-1 shot with most firms, while Boylesports go 8-1 from 12s, for next seasons Newmarket 1,000 Guineas. Her dam is a half-sister to Montjeu, so she is bred to get further and the Danehill Dancer filly is clearly an exciting prospect.
Raced by Michael Tabor and Susan Magnier, Again has won three of four starts and is bred to be good being from Cumbres, a half-sister to the great champion and outstanding sire Montjeu.
She is the second European Group One winning juvenile for Danehill Dancer this year following on from the previous success of unbeaten colt Mastercraftsman in the Phoenix Stakes.
