Moatize on Track for Spring
30th August 2008
Rated one of the best maidens in Australia, Moatize (4g Danehill DAncer x Shezabeel, by Zabeel) broke through for his first win at Sale on Thursday coasting home in a 1422 metre maiden to win by nearly two lengths.Trained by Bart Cummings, Moatize was resuming from a short let-up of 12 weeks having not raced since finishing third in the Group One QTC Queensland Derby.
Stakes-placed twice previously before that, Moatize is regarded as a highly promising stayer and is entered for both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.
Purchased by his trainer for $105,000 from the draft of Hallmark Stud at the 2006 NZB Premier Yearling Sale, Moatize is from the metropolitan winning Zabeel mare Shezabeel from the family of champion Australian sprinter Tontonan.
Moatize is another likely spring prospect for leading sire Danehill Dancer, who has a number of smart horses on the go in Light Fantastic, Arapaho Miss, Stripper and Wednesday winners Kimillsy and La Goulue.
