Seven Length Stakes Win for Almonsoon
24th August 2008
The Todd Pletcher trained Almonsoon (5m Giant’s Causeway x Garimpeiro, by Mr Prospector) posted her first Black Type success with a dominant win in the Omnibus Stakes at Monmouth on Saturday. The five year-old bolted away to win the mile and a quarter event by seven lengths in taking her overall record to five wins and nine placings from 18 starts with prizemoney of $249,386.
A home bred for Allen Paulson, Almonsoon is a half-sister to dual Group One winner Geri, Group Two winner A.P. Arrow and stakes-winner Clure being from the outstanding producer Garimpeiro.
Almonsoon continues the great run being enjoyed by Giant’s Causeway who has been churning out stakes-winners this year and is the leading North American sire by individual stakes-winners with 16 to his credit, plus one in France.
Giant’s Causeway also posted an interesting maiden winner at Del Mar when the Richard Mandella trained Times Gone By (3c Giant’s Causeway x Happy Tune, by A.P. Indy) scored by three parts of a length over six and a half furlongs.
A $1.9 million purchase from the 2006 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Times Gone By was the second highest priced yearling for his sire in that year.
