First Stakes Win for Kishkat
23rd August 2008
Talented mare Kishkat (4m Spinning World x Wichita, by Umatilla) confirmed her potential with an ‘all the way’ win in the Listed AJC Toy Show Quality at Warwick Farm on Saturday.Kishkat jumped quickly for Nash Rawiller and led comfortably in the 1400 metre event before kicking away in the straight for a very easy three length win over smart mare Vecchia Roma.
“That was a working gallop, she’s a very good mare in the making,” declared winning trainer Gai Waterhouse.
“I think she’s untapped and has so much in front of her.”
Kishkat has the overall record of five wins and two placings from eight starts with prizemoney of $158,000, the only blemish on her record an unplaced debut at Canterbury in July last year.
Raced by Pongrass Bloodstock and Andrew Reichard of Bloodhorse Review/Stallions fame, Kishkat was purchased for $250,000 by Gai Waterhouse at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Bred and offered for sale by Stuart Ramsay’s Turangga Farm, Kishkat is a full sister to Group Three SAJC Dermody Stakes winner Our Quivira being from the good producer Wichita.
Group Three placed Wichita is by Umatilla and hails from the family of Group One winner Deck the Halls.
Kishkat becomes the 40th stakes-winner worldwide for her sire Spinning World, a senior member of the Coolmore team who is now based permanently in Australia.
Spinning World covered some 106 mares last season and is sure to be popular again this spring at a fee of $11,000.
