Rock Song Offers Spring Potential

20th August 2008

Astute Rosehill trainer Tim Martin produced a promising staying type at the metro meeting at Gosford on Wednesday when Rock Song (4g Rock of Gibraltar x Wooden Melody, by Woodman) careered away for an easy win in the Ratings 75 event over 1600 metres.

Having just his third race start and stepping straight from a maiden win into metropolitan company, Rock Song emerged with flying colours and can be placed to advantage in the better grades in coming months.

A $250,000 purchase for Tim Martin Bloodstock form the Curraghmore draft at the 2006 NZB Premier Yearling Sale, Rock Song comes from the immortal Eight Carat family, his dam Wooden Melody, a half-sister by Woodman to Kiwi Group One winner Emerald Dream.

Entered in both Caulfield and Melbourne Cups for this year, Rock Song might find that a tad ambitious, but his progress will be well worth watching.

Rock Song is by the young Coolmore sire Rock of Gibraltar who was the leading second crop sire last season in Australia by stakes-winners and returns to Australia this spring at a fee of $82,500.
