Montjeu colt could be just Champion
18th August 2008
On a day at Leopardstown when all five Group races were won by the progeny of Coolmore sires, Montjeu’s son King Of Rome (3c Montjeu-Amizette, by Forty Niner) booked his ticket for next month’s G1 Irish Champion Stakes with an easy success in the G2 Royal Whip Stakes on Sunday.
Johnny Murtagh stretched clear in the final furlong on his mount to score by three and a half lengths.
"We always thought a lot of this horse and he's coming to himself now," said winning trainer Aidan O’Brien. "He's a classy horse. A mile and two suits him fine at the moment. He could run back here in the G1 Champion Stakes."
