Bombard Impresses on Debut

12th August 2008

Leading trainer Danny O’Brien produced a very smart three year-old at the transferred Kyneton meeting at Geelong on Tuesday when he took out the second race on the card with impressive colt Bombard (3c Fusaichi Pegasus x La Boisselle, by Danehill).

Making his debut, Bombard stormed home out wide to claim the 1200 metre maiden by a length and a quarter, running more than a second faster than the previous race won easily by another talented first starter in La Voile Rouge (3f Encosta de Lago x Curvaceous, by Zabeel).

A $550,000 purchase for Tony Santic’s Makybe from the Coolmore draft at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Bombard (pictured as a yearling) is the first foal of stakes-placed Danehill mare La Boisselle, a half-sister to champion two year-old Assertive Lad and dual Group One winner Assertive Lass, the dam of unbeaten dual Group One winner Reset.

La Boisselle was the star attraction at the 2002 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when she topped proceedings at $1.5 million and has proven a gem at stud in producing four consecutive foals with Bombard followed by a filly by Fusaichi Pegasus that made $220,000 at Inglis Easter this year and a colt by Encosta de Lago.

Covered by Dehere last spring, La Boisselle produced a gorgeous colt on July 26 and is booked back to visit Encosta de Lago.
