First Foals Arriving at Coolmore Australia

6th August 2008

The foaling season at Coolmore Stud in Australia is well and truly underway with some gorgeous new arrivals including the first foal of former outstanding New Zealand racemare Shikoba.

The Mark Walker trained daughter of Chief Bearhart won seven of 19 starts highlighted by three Group Two victories and was crowned New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year for 2006.

Sent to Australia for her first year at stud, Shikoba has produced this handsome bay colt (pictured) foaled on July 30 by exciting young sire Fastnet Rock, who posted his first barrier trial winner in New Zealand this week.

An unnamed filly from the Zabeel mare Dubai Express, she won a 600 metres scamper for the John Sargent stable.

Although bred in New Zealand, Shikoba comes from one of Australia’s best female families claiming outstanding producer Summoned as her third dam, the family featuring such stars as champion sprinter and sire Zeditave, international Group One winner grey’s Inn and promising young sire Jet Spur.

Blue-blooded stakes-placed mare La Boisselle (Danehill x Sommes Sound), who topped the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in 2002 when she made $1.5 million, is the dam of this strong bay colt, who even at this early stage, looks exactly what you expect to see of a colt by Dehere.

He is the fourth foal of La Boisselle, whose first foal, a colt by Fusaichi Pegasus made $550,000 at Easter when bought by Tony Santic. Yet to race, the three year-old has been named Bombard and is trained by Danny O’Brien.

Also by Fusaichi Pegasus and with a real international flavour is a beautifully related filly from the imported Danehill mare One Moment in Time, a full sister to outstanding filly Simply Perfect, winner of the Group One Ascot Fillies Mile and Group One Falmouth Stakes.
