Encosta de Lago Leads 2009 Slipper Entries
23rd July 2008
Soon to be crowned champion sire of Australia for the 2007/2008 racing season Encosta de Lago will have a great chance of capturing Australia’s premier juvenile event in 2009 as he has the largest number of entries with 104 babies nominated for the Golden Slipper.
Encosta has gone close with Von Costa de Hero a gallant second this year and with champion filly Alinghi who finished third to the freakish Dance Hero in 2004, so his turn is sure to come.
An interesting commodity is exciting first season sire Fastnet Rock, who has 98 entries, a tremendous number for a young unproven stallion.
His yearlings sold exceptionally well and there is very high expectation on this outstanding sire prospect, who finished a close fourth in the Golden Slipper in 2004 before going on to claim a pair of Group One victories at three.
