Impressive Hawk Wing juvenile 33/1 for Guineas
18th July 2008
The Hawk Wing juvenile Whispering Angel (2c Hawk Wing-Savignano, by Polish Precedent) stole the show at Newbury on Friday when running away with a seven-furlong maiden.
Brian Meehan’s charge, who was bred by Grundy Bloodstock and races in the famous Sangster family silks, had finished third at Newmarket’s July Meeting on his debut last week and looked to have improved for that run as he slammed his rivals at Newbury by two and three-quarter lengths.
"He has always been a very good horse and you always want to see them produce it like that. He has a wonderful temperament and is lovely and relaxed," said Meehan.
"I'll wait a while with him now as it is just nine days since he ran at Newmarket. There are plenty of stakes races for him later on and he will step up to a mile. He'll get stronger too, and will make a nice three-year-old."
Whispering Angel, whose big-race entries include the G1 National Stakes and next year’s G1 Derby, received quotes of 33/1 from bookmakers for next year’s G1 2000 Guineas.
