20 Length Win for Zulu Chief
10th July 2008
Fusaichi Pegasus colt Zulu Chief (3c Fusaichi Pegasus x La Lorgnette, by Val de l'Orne) broke his maiden by an astonishing 20 lengths at Naas in Ireland on Wednesday, the three-quarter brother to Hawk Wing making it look all too easy.Trained by Aidan O’Brien for Mrs Susan Magnier, the dark bay was having his second race start after finishing third on debut at Newmarket on April 21.
Zulu Chief travelled in fourth place for much of the mile and a quarter race before assuming the lead inside the final quarter and careering away for a facile victory.
Zulu Chief is bred to be good as a three-quarter brother to freakishly talented racehorse Hawk Wing, a triple Group One winner and successful young sire.
His dam La Lorgnette, the champion three year-old filly of Canada in 1985, has been an exceptional producer leaving nine winners with Hawk Wing joined also by Group Three winner Race for the Stars (a full brother to Zulu Chief) and also the Canadian stakes-winner Alexandrina, dam of Group One winner and Canadian Horse of the Year, Thornfield.
