Mirabeau Scores for Famous Family
6th July 2008
The open juvenile event at Rosehill on Saturday was won by rapidly improving colt Mirabeau (2c Encosta de Lago x French Braids, by Flying Spur) , a $520,000 purchase from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2007 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.Placed at his first two starts, the Tim Martin trained Mirabeau was fitted with blinkers for this assignment and showed the benefit in leading throughout to win the 1200 metre event by more than a length in a dominant display.
“I couldn’t believe he got beaten at Kembla last time,” Martin said.
“He’s always shown me a lot and the blinkers helped him focus today.”
Mirabeau is the fourth foal and second winner for Group Two STC Silver Slipper winner French Braids, a Flying Spur mare, whose third dam is celebrated producer Fanfreluche.
It’s a family that has been in the spotlight of late with the Danehill mare Milanova, a grand-daughter of Fanfreluche, fetching a Southern Hemisphere record price of $5milion at the Inglis Breeding Stock Sale last Sunday when secured by Coolmore Stud.
Mirabeau has an intriguing pedigree as he is line bred three times to Fanfreluche through his sire Encosta de Lago, dam sire Flying Spur and direct tail female line.
