$500,000 for Encosta Colt

Encosta de Lago provided the top priced colt at the Inglis Select Weanling Sale this year when his youngster from Charmview made $500,000 at the Newmarket complex on Friday.Consigned by Coolmore Studas Lot 287, the chestnut colt was knocked down to Blue Sky Thoroughbreds and is the first foal of the Group Three winning Royal Academy mare Charmview.
Encosta de Lago also featured with fillies from Viennese Waltz and Sorrento making $250,000 and $200,000 respectively when secured by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds again and Chatswood Stud.
Fastnet Rock also entered the mix at the top end with a colt from Blue Music that was purchased by New Zealander Michael Wallace for $285,000 and Oratorio starred on the first day of the sale with his filly from Rainscene that made $300,000.
All were consigned by Coolmore Stud, who finished as the leading vendor at the sale.
“This was one of the best drafts we have ever taken to a weanling sale and we got the desired result,” Coolmore Australia General Manager Michael Kirwan said.
“We bought some really nice horses to the sale and it was very pleasing to see the strong competition for them.”
