First Stakes-Winner for Lion Heart

8th June 2008

Exciting young sire Lion Heart posted his first stakes-winner at Lone Star Park on Saturday when Lyin’ Heart (2c Lion Heart x Rumba Punch, by Green Dancer) forged clear to win the Listed TTA Sales Futurity Stakes by three and a half lengths.

The Steve Asmussen trained colt broke his maiden on debut at the same track on May 23 and despite racing greenly during this five furlong assignment proved far too good in running out a very easy winner.

A $100,000 purchase from the Fasig Tipton Kentucky July Sale, Lyin’ Heart is from the Green Dancer mare Rumba Punch, a half-sister to stakes-winners The Lady’s Groom and Marina de Chavon.

Lyin’ Heart is one of six winners in North America for dual Group One winner Lion Heart, who has kicked off his stud career in explosive fashion with Lyin’ Heart the highlight of a list that also features Pride, Hostile, Azul Leon, Silent Valor and Cameron Crazies, all winners at major American tracks.

Lion Heart is a clear leader on the North American first season sires list and his oldest Australian progeny are yearlings, the son of Tale of the Cat due back in Australia this spring after being sent home to Kentucky prematurely last year as a result of EI.
