Gio Ponti Takes G3 Hill Prince Stakes Going Away

Tale of the Cat continued his red hot run in adding yet another stakes-winner to his tally when Gio Ponti (3c Tale of the Cat x Chipeta Springs, by Alydar) resumed from a long spell to win the Group Three Hill Prince Stakes at Belmont on Friday.

Off the scene since finishing down the track in the Breeders Cup Turf last October, the Christophe Clemente trained Gio Ponti was fractious before the start, but unwound a big finish to reel in the leaders and take the mile event on turf by two lengths.

Raced by Castleton Lyons and bred by Kilboy Estate, Gio Ponti was a stakes-winner last season at two and now has the overall record of three wins from four starts with prizemoney of $190,800.

A half-brother to stakes-winner Fisher Pond he is from the stakes-placed Alydar mare Chipeta Springs, a daughter of Argentinian Group One winner Salt Spring.
