Galileo juvenile is outstanding G3 winner at Naas
2nd June 2008
Galileo's exploits as a racehorse at Epsom live long in the memory and he could enjoy a big weekend on the famous Downs as a sire with leading contenders in all three G1 races. On Friday, the Ann Jenkins-bred Lush Lashes (3f Galileo-Dance For Fun, by Anabaa) is likely to start favourite for the G1 Juddmonte Oaks after her brilliant success in the G2 Musidora Stakes at York.
The Jim Bolger-trained filly could be joined in the line-up by stablemate Prima Luce (3f Galileo-Ramona, by Desert King), a 270,000gns yearling bred by John Connaughton, and Adored (3f Galileo-Sudden Hope, by Darshaan), a facile winner of the G3 Blue Wind Stakes at Naas last time out.
Last season's champion two-year-old New Approach (3c Galileo-Park Express, by Ahonoora) is a surprise acceptor for the G1 Derby on Saturday but looks to have strong credentials on the back of his second places in the English and Irish 2,000 Guineas.
Meanwhile the brilliant Soldier Of Fortune (4c Galileo-Affianced, by Erins Isle), Breeders' Cup Turf winner Red Rocks (5h Galileo-Pharmacist, by Machiavellian) and the progressive Galactic Star (4c Galileo-Balisada, by Kris) are all entered in Friday's G1 Juddmonte Coronation Cup.
Another name for the notebook could be Sub Rose (3f Galileo-Amazing Krisken, by Kris S), who made it two wins from two starts at Chantilly on Sunday when running out an impressive three-length winner of the G3 Prix de Royaumont. Alain de Royer-Dupre's charge, who is owned by 6c Racing, swooped to the lead in the final furlong of the mile and a half contest and she now has some big targets. "I like this filly a lot. She lacks experience but has been working very well with some of my best horses so I knew that she had talent," said de Royer-Dupre. "We will now probably aim her at the G2 Prix de Malleret and
she could go to Ireland for the G1 Irish Oaks and then maybe the G1 Prix Vermeille. She has excellent speed but switches off a little bit in the early part of her races. She stays really well and quickens up impressively."
Sub Rose was bred by Azienda Agricola Rosati Colarieti and sold for 200,000 euros as a yearling to France Pur Sang at the SGA Sale in Milan.
Meanwhile, New Approach's trainer Jim Bolger unveiled his latest Galileo superstar at Naas on Monday when Cuis Ghaire (2f Galileo-Scribonia, by Danehill) won the G3 Cathal Ryan Memorial Swordlestown Sprint in electric style. The filly, bred by Bolger and owned by his wife Jackie, stormed home to a three and a half length victory in the six-furlong event and will now be targeted at some even bigger prizes. "She's a lovely sort and she'll head for the G2 Railway Stakes at the Curragh next with the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes back there the long-term aim," said Bolger.
Cuis Ghaire is bred on the same Galileo-Danehill cross as Bolger's 2006 champion two-year-old Teofilo and the recent G1 Derby Italiano winner Cima De Triomphe.
